The Best Beaches in Paphos for Families

Coral Bay — The Benchmark for Family Beaches Near Paphos

If you ask most families to name the best beaches in Paphos for families, Coral Bay is the answer that comes back most often - and it earns that reputation. The bay is a wide arc of fine golden sand with water that is consistently calm, shallow at the shoreline and extraordinarily clear. It holds a Blue Flag certification, which means the water quality is tested regularly and meets strict European standards.

Facilities are comprehensive: sunbed and umbrella hire runs to around €8–10 per set, there are watersports operators offering paddleboard and kayak hire, and several restaurants and beach bars sit directly on or above the sand. The swimming is excellent for children of all ages — the sea floor drops away gradually, so younger children can wade safely while older ones swim out further. Coral Bay is fifteen minutes north of Geroskipou by car. It gets busy in July and August, particularly at weekends, so arriving before 10am secures a good spot.

Geroskipou Beach (Rikkos) - Best for Proximity and Calm Water

Geroskipou Beach - locally known as Rikkos - is the closest beach to Bird of Paradise and The Pearl, a five-minute walk from both. It is a long, gently curving stretch of coarse sand and fine gravel with calm, clear water that is well-suited to young children. It lacks the polish of Coral Bay - the facilities are more basic, the sunbed operators fewer - but that is precisely its appeal for many families. It is noticeably quieter, even in peak season, and the water quality is consistently good.

There is a beach bar at the western end and a small taverna on the road above. Parking is free along the seafront road. For families staying in Geroskipou, Rikkos is the default morning beach — easy, local and entirely without fuss.

St George Beach — Best for Families Staying in Chlorakas

St George Beach is the closest coastal access point to Nerida Residence in Chlorakas, approximately a five-minute walk from the villa. It is a quieter, more local beach than Coral Bay - long, with a mixture of sand and fine shingle, calm water and good visibility. The St George Beach Hotel sits directly above and operates sunbed concessions on the beach; non-guests can hire these without issue. There is a beach bar and restaurant on site.

The swimming here is calm and safe for children, and the beach is rarely crowded outside the main summer weeks. It is an excellent base for a straightforward beach day without the drive or the crowds that Coral Bay involves.

Ymassoyia (Bunch of Grapes) Beach - A Quieter Alternative

Between Geroskipou and Paphos Harbour, Ymassoyia Beach sits just off the coastal road and is largely bypassed by tourists in favour of better-known spots. That makes it genuinely useful for families wanting a calm morning swim without competition for space. The water is clean and calm, the beach is mostly sand, and there is basic parking along the seafront. Facilities are minimal - a small snack kiosk in season - but if your priorities are quiet water and easy access rather than sunbed service, it is worth knowing about. It is around ten minutes by car from the Geroskipou villas.

Sea Caves Coastal Area - For Older Children and Adventurous Families

The Sea Caves coastline north of Coral Bay is not a conventional family beach, and it is not suitable for very young children. What it offers instead is one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in Cyprus - dramatic limestone formations, crystal-clear rock pools and sheltered coves that are ideal for snorkelling and coastal exploring with older children.

There is no sand and no organised facility of any kind, which is most of its appeal. Families with children aged eight and above who are comfortable in the water consistently rate it among the highlights of their trip. Access is via a short coastal path from the Peyia area, around twenty minutes north of Geroskipou. Bring water shoes, snorkelling gear and plenty of water - there are no shops or cafés nearby.

A Note on Beach Conditions

All of the beaches listed above have calm, sheltered water in normal summer conditions. The western Paphos coastline is naturally protected from the prevailing winds that affect the south and east of Cyprus, which is one of the reasons it is so consistently good for family swimming. Between May and October, sea temperatures range from 22°C to 28°C - genuinely comfortable for extended swimming without a wetsuit.
